Rémy Slama

Rémy Slama is an environmental epidemiologist, senior investigator at Inserm and attached professor at ENS-PSL, leading the PARSEC initiative to develop research on climate change and health
Rémy Slama is an environmental epidemiologist specializing on climate change and its connection to health. In spring 2024, he joined the Biology Institute (IBENS) of Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) Paris to develop a research structure at the interface between climate change and health, PARSEC (Paris Recherche Santé Environnement Climat), supported by Inserm and ENS. His current research focus deals with the optimization of climate change mitigation strategies to maximize health cobenefits and limit inequalities.
Formerly, his work focused on the exposome, atmospheric pollutants, endocrine disruptors and their health effects, often in the context of early-life exposures, as well as on related methodological issues.
He is senior investigator at Inserm (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research) and Professor (Professeur attaché) at ENS-PSL Paris. He received his PhD in epidemiology from University Paris-Sud and degrees from Ecole Polytechnique and AgroParisTech. He is a recipient of ISEE Tony McMichael mid-career award.
Past positions and projects
He formerly held the annual chair in public health at the Collège de France (2022) and was head of Inserm Public Health Institute (2020-2024). He developed and led the Inserm-Grenoble Alps University research team in environmental epidemiology (2008-2024, now led by Valérie Siroux) where he launched SEPAGES exposome couple-child cohort and participated in several EU projects such as Athlete, Helix and ESCAPE.
Teaching
He is in particular involved in TRANSFORM Master (Sustainability science), Mineure Action publique and the teaching of CERES.
Lectures include a course on the identification of dangers and risk management in the Anthropocene.
Expert committees
He has been implied in several expert committees in environmental health at the national (e.g. as head of the scientific council of the national research plan on endocrine disruptors or member of COVARS), EU (SCHEER committee) and international levels and is a former member of ISEE board.
